amersham museum: MUSIC PROJECT for reminiscence group
1. workshops
dWorkshop leader Mike Watson will work with the group to explore the themes and desired outcomes of the project. With a sense of fun and excitement Mike will explain what is possible with the musical and recording equipment at his disposal.
To kick off the workshop Mike will run a drum and singing workshop based on the drum circle principles Mike is familiar with. This is a lot of fun, will break the ice and get the project off to a flying start.
CASE STUDY: Mike has an extensive collection of drums and percussion which can be used in a range of drum circle, workshop and live performance settings. Mike has trained in drum circle facilitation with renown international exponent Arthur Hull. Below are some shots of the John Lewis staff 2017 Christmas Parties where Mike provided drums and entertainment for over 700 staff.

2. the words
An important foundation of the project is likely to be developing words and poetry content that reinforces the fundamental message the group wants to put across e.g. friendship, memories, oral history etc. This could then be developed into a lyric format suitable for singing, recording and performing as agreed.
CASE STUDY: Below is the inside spread of the CD cover with lyrics for the song Sky High. This song was especially written by Mike Watson for the Lane End Players pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk in 2016. As well as being the featured song at the beginning and end of the panto's nine performances the cast recorded the song for sale as a charity CD at the shows.

3. the music
Mike will work with the group to help them create their musical voice utilising their musical tastes and interests combined with their inherent and perhaps latent abilities. A key part of the project will be the integration of lyrics and melody that coveys the important emotions the group wishes to explore.
INSIGHT: Mike utilises modern technology to create songs and compositions covering a wide range of musical genres and settings. From pop to jazz, for film and theatre, from ballads to classical, for live performance and multi-track recordings Mike will be able to develop song content and musical themes the group will enjoy developing, performing and recording.

4. rehearsing
To ensure the agreed goal is as polished and professional as possible it is important the group are thoroughly rehearsed and prepared. As well as rehearsals in workshop Mike can make the music available to the group for individual and home practice.
5. recording
Whether the agreed outcome is a recording of the music or just for archive purposes Mike will record the group once they are well versed in the composition. This can be done at the museum with Mike's portable recording equipment. If the group want to try and achieve a recording worthy of a release not just archive (e.g. CD or download) Mike has access to a professional level recording studio at the arts centre in High Wycombe. If additional funding is required for this Mike may be able to secure funds or contributions in kind or voluntary.
6. perfoRMING
If the agreed outcome is a performance of some kind Mike can provide a PA system, microphones and lighting if required. Additionally for an event and through the process Mike has secured voluntary support from a photographer and videographer who will help create evidence of the project, its progress and outcomes.
